Holy jeez. I caught a ridiculous case of Monkey Pox/SARS/Ebola (insert infectious disease here) last week. Fine on Friday night, and deathly ill by Saturday morning. Needless to say, I've been out of commission for nearly 2 weeks now. A common cold will wipe out the hardiest of athletes, since the lungs take the brunt of the sickness. I finally crawled onto my bike last night after a brief trip to the gym. I got about halfway through my workout at the gym, and then got caught in the throes of a 10 minute long coughing fit. Not good. Same story when I tried my first run in 13 days this evening. The frustrating thing is that I was starting to get to a point where I could get out on the roads and rip off solid hour-plus runs at a good pace. My run tonight was like learning how to walk all over again, and I was winded and sore after 30 minutes.
The silver lining is that I still have nearly 4 months before Ironman RI, so plenty of time to recharge and get in some good workouts. Unfortunately, the story isn't the same for the Cherry Blossom 10-miler...only 3 weeks to get back on the horse and try to work off the rust. But no time to worry about it, just gotta get out there and tear it up.
Time to go to work.
